In January, the Chinese manufacturer has decided to occupy the entry level with a new revision for 2019 of its Huawei P Smart. When it came out, it was a safe bet for anyone looking for a powerful smartphone without spending a lot of money.
However, this is also a bonus for Xiaomi who, with its brand Redmi, wants to offer the best prices with the best technical sheet possible. The Redmi 7 is the flagship and has not disappointed us either.
Which smartphone to favor for the same budget? It is to this question that we will give you an answer.
Design: Two Twin Brothers
Not really need to separate the two smartphones on this point, since they are extremely similar. The Huawei P Smart 2019 as the Redmi 7 put forward a borderless design based on a notch shaped water drop at the top of the device.
On the back, there is a double photo sensor oriented vertically on the upper left corner. There is also a fingerprint reader on the back, rounded shape.
The material of the back is a polycarbonate imitation glass that takes fingerprints well, but is rounded on the sides to allow a better grip.
There are two differences
The P Smart 2019 has more inscriptions on his back than the Redmi 7, but also has a chin much less pronounced than his brother in arms. It is also lighter. But in terms of format and overall appreciation, the two smartphones are really identical.
Also, it is for these only small differences that the Huawei P Smart 2019 wins the round. However, we can possibly consider it a draw.
Screen: For A Handful of Pixels
The Huawei P Smart 2019 is equipped with an IPS LCD panel of 6.21 inches diagonally, which is the ratio 19: 9. It supports a maximum definition in Full HD +. Regarding the quality, we are still on a very good slab, bright and well contrasted, which is unfortunately pretty bluish by default, but can be re-set at will in the options.
The Redmi 7 displays a diagonal substantially similar to 6.26 inches, at the same 19: 9 ratio. However, it only supports a maximum HD + definition. This is not a bad slab, it offers a contrast very satisfactory, but its brightness can sometimes be a problem.
As for its competitor, it is possible to precisely adjust the color temperature in the interface provided for this purpose. On this ground, it is obvious that the Huawei P Smart 2019 will offer a better experience.
It must be said that the HD definition on smartphone has now run its course and that one is entitled to claim Full HD, even on first prizes now.
Software: like iOS or an old Android
The Huawei P Smart 2019 comes by default with EMUI 9, which runs thanks to Android 9 Pie. This is a very classic interface in the world of Android, and maybe even a bit too much: if it offers gesture navigation or the possibility of having an application drawer, its design is somewhat retrograde and many preinstalled applications.
The Redmi 7 benefits as for him, as the tradition, the interface MUI in version 10.2, also based on Android 9 Pie.
Be careful though if you are not used to it
It is rather inspired by iOS, in a more acidulous vision all the same and does not offer for example application drawer. It is much more modern graphically, and offers just as many customization options.
Xiaomi, however, is trying hard to make you use its own services, often to the detriment of user experience and overall consistency.
On this point, the opinions may differ. Nevertheless, we prefer the Huawei P Smart 2019, which remains closer to Android in its philosophy and forces a little less the hand of its users. The Redmi 7, however, is far from unpleasant to use and offers as many changes as possible.
Performances: The Kirin Crunches the Snapdragon
Huawei P Smart 2019 Performance
The Huawei P Smart 2019 is equipped with a Kirin 710 coupled with 3GB of LPDDR4X RAM. This is the HiSilicon chip dedicated to the entry level and still remains a safe bet.
You will not necessarily be able to make your P Smart 2019 a powerful gaming smartphone, but it still remains very fluid every day and never gets in your way.
Redmi 7 Performance
The Redmi 7 is equipped with Qualcomm Snapdragon 612 coupled to the choice of 2 or 3 GB of RAM. This is an aging chip from Qualcomm, which still offers an exemplary fluidity on the most basic tasks.
The same cannot be said about the games, however, where the Kirin 710 has the ascendant. Both chips guarantee a fluid smartphone, but the Huawei P Smart 2019’s Kirin 710 remains superior in terms of raw power.
Conclusion: Which Is The Best Smartphone?
If you consider the best smartphone like the one ticking at best all these boxes, then there is not really to think: the Huawei P Smart 2019 is the best.
Between his performances, his screen and his very good photo capabilities, he will be far from disappointing on a daily basis and never really comes to be frustrating. For a further ten euros, it will be better to recommend it.
However, the Redmi 7 is not totally out of date. Its biggest defect is its screen, but its enormous autonomy could really suit those of whom it is the main concern.
